The requirements apply from February 9, 2019 when labelling of packaging and IT systems for verification must be fully implemented. This places great demands on all participants in the supply chain. Each pharmacy and wholesaler must be aware of what is required of them for a successful implementation before February 9, 2019.

Pharmacies/Wholesalers

The electronic verification (e-verification) requirements is mandatory from February 9, 2019 with respect to marking packs and IT systems for e-verification. This places great demands on all participants in the supply chain and the purpose of this information is to focus on the requirements that specifically apply to pharmacies and wholesalers.

Preparations for pharmacies
  • Review and revise procedures so that verification and decommissioning can be carried out in accordance with the Regulation
  • Evaluate the need for further changes, such as verification of incoming goods
  • Identify what changes will be needed in supporting IT systems, including full traceability to the workstation/authorized person
  • Plan for deployment/updating of scanners so that requirements are met
  • Formulate procedures to ensure that decommissioned packs that were not dispatched/dispensed will not be placed back on the pharmacy shelf
  • Participate in efforts to establish the Swedish system, especially a “Pilot” and preparation of processes/procedures/guidelines for handling deviations, etc., that affect multiple stakeholders.

  • Review and revise procedures so that risk-based verification and decommissioning in accordance with the Regulation can be implemented
  • Identify what changes will be needed in supporting IT systems, including full traceability to the workstation/authorised person
  • Plan for deployment/updating of scanners so that requirements are met
  • Participate in efforts to establish the Swedish system, especially a “Pilot” and preparation of processes/procedures/guidelines for handling deviations, etc., that affect multiple stakeholders
